What is Synovitis?
Synovitis often occurs under the ball of the foot. It occurs when tissues that line the joints become inflammed. Pain on weightbearing or with joint motion, redness, swelling and warmth occur.
How did I get this?
When there is too much pressure on the toes due to a deformity. Arthritis can be a factor, as well as wearing high heels or shoes with insufficient width and other inappropriate footwear.
What can I do about it?
Wear accommodating footwear (width and depth)
Avoid wearing high heels.
Wear a protective pad to prevent pressure build up.
Hot or cold packs may help the issue.

What help can I get for this?
A podiatrist may make padding that will reduce pressure on the affected area. They may also give footwear advice, advise orthotics or strap the area.
Cortisone injections may relieve pain in the injured area.
A surgeon can assess and perform surgery for the deformity causing the synovitis.
When will it get better?
Early diagnosis is key, allowing the best outcome. Leaving synovitis untreated synovitis can cause rupture or permanent deformity.
